Scott Barry-Grove

Art Educator

I am an art educator and interdisciplinary artist with over 12 years of teaching experience within a high school setting. I empower students to find their personal artistic voice while enhancing their confidence and abilities across all skill levels. I provide tailored instruction to every student according to their abilities and interests and heavily collaborate with community partners to promote exposure of student work and introduce outside of the box programming.

As a practicing artist, I possess extensive expertise in various mediums. I derive enjoyment from traditional art forms like painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture, as well as contemporary practices including performance, collage, mixed media, photography, video, and conceptual art.

Teaching Philosophy

The courage to take risks, earnest examination, and open-mindedness are all crucial aspects of an art practice. These qualities thrive in an environment built on safety and encouragement. I endeavor to cultivate such an atmosphere for my students, where both the trials and errors of the artistic journey are celebrated. I firmly believe that personal voice lies at the heart of every impactful work of art, and I empower my students to explore and express their unique perspectives.

As an art instructor, I challenge my students to question their preconceptions of art and to expand their understanding of its possibilities. Adapting my teaching style to meet the needs of each individual student is essential in fostering a vibrant classroom art practice. Recognizing and supporting the growth of each student as an artist requires personalized attention. Through one-on-one interactions, I prioritize honing the skills that are most pertinent to each student's goals and progression, enabling them to realize their artistic visions and advance toward mastery.

It is my aspiration that every student leaves my classroom with a heightened sense of self-worth and the capacity to think creatively, critically, and reflectively.

Community Engagement

As the arts are deeply rooted in expression, fostering engagement among students, their creations, and the local community is empowering and catalyzes growth. I collaborate with school administration and local galleries to offer venues where students can contemplate how their art resonates with an audience, while also showcasing the skills of our students and the strength of the school.

Mural Art Course:
Developed a mural art class, fostering collaboration among students to create large-scale murals installed throughout the school, enriching the campus environment with vibrant and meaningful artwork.

Blue Knights Gallery

Launched dedicated Instagram pages to showcase the diverse artwork of our student body, encouraging submissions from all students irrespective of their enrollment in art classes. This platform serves as a creative outlet for students to share their work and also doubles as a promotional tool for school arts events, amplifying engagement and participation across the community.
